The requirements of the EU-U.S Data Privacy Framework were announced on the 12th July, and the U.S. Department of Commerce began accepting EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework self-certifcations on 1st August 2016.

The requirements of the substantially similar, but separate Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework were announced on January 12, 2017 and the U.S. Department of Commerce began accepting Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework self-certifications on April 12, 2017. The full text of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, which have been approved respectively as valid legal mechanisms to comply with EU and Swiss requirements when transferring personal data from the EU and Switzerland to the United States, is available on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Data Privacy Framework website.
